I recently flew to Sydney and my mother and I went to see Deepak Chopra for his whole day lecture. It was a very exciting day for both of us.
I have read and enjoyed many of Deepaks books over the years: Seven Spiritual Laws of Success, Path to Love and more recently The Way of the Wizard and this was for me, a once in a lifetime opportunity to see this legend of new age spiritualism, in person.
When I arrived at the venue there were already hundreds of people peacefuly waiting for the doors to open.
At the start of the workshop he gave an overview of the day’s topics and showed a video by Jill Bolte Taylor from TED.com . I was already enjoying the fact that Deepak Chopra and I were sharing a common TED experience.
Deepak Chopra is acknowledged as of the best public speakers of our time and over the day, I could see why. He was so deliberate, clear, calm and focused in everything he spoke about. The many subjects he spoke about were intriguing and very thought provoking.
The structure of his lecture and his calm, solid manner, had an organizing and stimulating effect on my overall energy. Over the day, I felt progressively clearer and more certain about many of the topics he touched upon. I felt that he had confirmed my feelings and intuitions even though he wasn’t directly addressing them as such. Other people I spoke to after the lecture felt this way as well.
I knew I was having one of those life-changing moments, because I felt myself deconstructing. It was as though the parts that made me, were all pulled apart like Leggo. My usual frames of reference didn’t fully exist for anything anymore, because of what Deepak was saying about my divine- soul- self. The days proceeding the lecture, I felt the Leggo peices putting themselves back together again in a new way. With me, he achieved the title of his lecture ‘Creating a New You’.
We chatted about his lecture for hours afterward and over the following days- that’s how you know something was worth it. Every cent. Deepak was quite impressive and his breadth of knowledge was somewhat beyond what I could conceive of.
I wondered how he would have a normal life, if at all, given everything he knows and therefore must put into practise. I secretley thought he might refresh himself with one of his own health books and lose some weight, but given he’s over 60 and all the important dinners he most likely attends, I suppose he can be forgiven.
Deepak’s Australian tour was partly based on his latest book “Reinventing the Body, Resurrecting the Soul”. Fortunately, I can go to the book to be reminded of the compelling information he presented in his lecture and I would probably see him again when he’s next in Oz.
