Metamorphosis by koan
There is a page on my site called Inspirational Quotes. It would be more accurate to call the page ‘Koans’.
Tom said, “Do you know what a koan is?”
“No,” Shirley MacLaine answered.
“A koan,” said Tom, “is a question which a Zen master will pose to his student to inspire him or her to think more deeply about his own reality. ‘What is the sound of one hand clapping?’ That is a koan. ‘If a tree falls in the forest, does it make a sound if no one is there to hear it?’ That is a koan.
“Koans are intended to stimulate insight… it stimulates investigative thought… you know more about yourself.”
Koans are different to ’signs’ or messages about people or situation. Signs tend to come in forms that you are already familiar with in some way and they reinforce a belief or an energy you already have.
Koans tend not to be familiar but somewhat new concepts, perceptions or experiences that make you go inside yourself and ponder about because you can’t give an immediate response or reaction to it.
If you think about it, you probably come across Koans every week, maybe more if you were aware of them.
